To Defence Minister Richard Marles and Assistant Defence Minister Peter Khalil,

I have significant concerns about Australia’s ongoing role in the global F-35 fighter jet supply chain, which continues to equip Israel despite mounting evidence of war crimes and genocide in Gaza.

F-35s are central to Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the West Bank. Australia, as a key producer of critical F-35 components, is complicit in enabling these attacks. A UN report in June 2024 highlighted F-35s delivering bombs in indiscriminate and disproportionate strikes on Gaza. In July 2024, an F-35 dropped three 2000 lb bombs on a declared safe zone in Al-Mawasi, killing 90 civilians.

These attacks form part of a broader pattern of grave human rights violations, not limited to Palestinians in Palestine, but also in war crimes in Lebanon, Syria, Iran, Qatar and Yemen. Following the finding by the International Court of Justice that Israel’s actions may amount to genocide, this has been most recently confirmed by a United Nations Commission of Inquiry in September of this year and is a conclusion echoed by Amnesty International, by the International Association of Genocide Scholars, and countless other reputable voices.

Despite government claims that Australia does not directly supply F-35 parts to Israel, recent reporting by Declassified Australia proves that F-35 components have been flown directly from Sydney to Israel, bypassing Lockheed Martin’s distribution hubs entirely. This undermines Australia's stated position and raises serious legal and ethical concerns.

As a party to the Genocide Convention and the Arms Trade Treaty, Australia must not contribute, either directly or indirectly, to violations of international law. This includes halting the supply of F-35 parts where there is a substantial risk they could facilitate atrocity crimes.

I demand the Australian Government:
- End all participation in F-35 supply chains linked to Israel.
- Ensure no components made in Australia reach Israeli F-35s, directly or indirectly.
- Reassess all export permits and logistics routes that may be bypassing formal distribution channels.
